Located in Edmonton’s Rundle Park, this facility is dedicated to providing recreational facilities and programs to the public, with a focus on serving individuals of all ages and abilities.
At the outset of the project, the design team conducted a comprehensive analysis of potential improvement scopes in order to find synergies between them and in doing so, maximize long term value to the facility from multiple perspectives. The evaluation criteria for these scopes included the management of capital, operational, and maintenance costs and the enhancement of user experience.
The bulk of the improvements are focused on the main natatorium space. The renewed pool basins, now equipped with better infrastructure for universal access, are complemented by new lighting and HVAC systems, which in turn are integrated into and concealed by a new acoustic ceiling structure that reduces noise in the natatorium and enhances the luminosity of the space as a whole.
