Sunalta is an active urban community situated at the west edge of downtown Calgary. Bordered by 16th St SW and 10th Ave SW, its community hall serves as a local gathering point for a variety of indoor and outdoor programs. Built in the early 1900s, the hall has become a community icon.
In response to growing demand for expanded programming to serve an increasingly diverse community, the Sunalta Community association commissioned MBAC to prepare a master plan for a new community hub. This new hub’s mandate includes fostering social agency with an emphasis on food security, skill development, and recreation, while reinforcing Sunalta’s unique culture through spaces and programs that celebrate creative expression.
