Substance over Spectacle is an exhibition of projects by Canadian architects built in Canada since the beginning of the nineties, curated by Andrew Gruft.
The thesis implicit in the title argues for the complexity and integrity of the best Canadian architecture, in an international context which often bestows the highest profile on buildings that tend toward the spectacular.
MBAC’s contribution to the exhibition explores the notion of negotiable space though the creation of interactive display pods and videos.
The three pods act as light tables for the Ramsay Redevelopment project, Tag Advertising Studios, and the New Varscona Theatre. The triangle of pods project corresponding videos onto each other. As a result, a central space is created for the viewer to experience many different views of each display.
