The Project is sited within an existing clearing between Memorial Drive and the Bow River creating a view across the Bow River to Calgary’s historic Mewata Armory. The Memorial creates a link with the Armory and Calgary’s military history.
Visitors to the Memorial are drawn up a shallow ramp and led past major dates which have had a profound impact on Canadian military history. Six monumental marble slabs are inscribed with the names of the fallen. The Memorial provides requisite commemorative elements and spaces of individual introspection and mourning, while providing a public stage and gathering space for civic ceremonies.
